To ensure maximum fire safety, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has its own specialised fire brigade. This unit is trained in fighting aircraft fires, a highly specialised field. To guarantee the safety of passengers and employees, crash tenders must be able to reach any runway within three minutes. That is why three fire stations have been strategically located: Post Sloten, Post Rijk and Post Vijfhuizen.
Because the firefighters also stay at the stations, comfort and health are important considerations. Post Rijk is the first station to be renovated and partially refurbished.
We are proud to be contributing to this special project together with Nine Oaks Architects, BAM Bouw & Techniek and the other design team partners. The renovation and new construction of Post Rijk will directly contribute to ensuring the rapid and efficient response capabilities of the airport fire brigade.

Bim&Beyond supported this project from the preliminary design phase (VO) through to the implementation-ready design (UO). We were responsible for the BIM development and coordination of the final design (DO), technical design (TO) and the UO.
Together with Nine Oaks Architects, we won the tender. The contractor BAM Bouw & Techniek was already a client of Bim&Beyond, and we created the implementation-ready design for them. The close collaboration with both the architect and the contractor, and the successful completion of all Schiphol processes, has led to us now also being asked to work on other projects at the airport.
An additional challenge within this project is that the fire brigade had to remain operational during the renovation. That is why it was decided to retain part of the fire station, where the crash tenders are stationed, and keep it operational while the other part is demolished and replaced by new construction.
Together with Nine Oaks Architects, we have developed a tailor-made solution for the fire brigade that offers them an optimal and healthy working environment. With our architectural expertise and integrated modelling, we ensure that architecture, structures, installations and interiors fit together seamlessly. This enables efficient execution, with maximum precision and minimal disruption to the crucial fire brigade operations at Schiphol.
