A future-proof learning environment has been designed for Montessori Maassluis, where the Montessori approach is evident in every room. The school functions as a mini-society: a place where children learn, discover and grow together. The central village square and the green patio form the heart of the building, seamlessly connecting education, social interaction and nature.
The school’s flexible layout supports various forms of learning and collaboration. Classrooms, learning plazas and communal spaces are interconnected and can be easily adapted to changing educational needs. Thanks to clever sightlines, plenty of natural light and a strong connection between indoors and outdoors, an open and stimulating learning environment is created where tranquillity, creativity and interaction come together.
The school is also prepared for the future on a technical and structural level. The hybrid structural system, featuring timber columns and reused hollow-core slabs, enables large, adaptable spaces and provides scope for future expansion. This results in a sustainable and flexible building that can adapt to new insights and developments in education for at least the next 50 years.
Bim&Beyond was responsible for developing the technical design for Montessori Maassluis. During this phase, we translated the architectural design into a technically feasible and integrated BIM model that brings together all disciplines.
By coordinating and detailing the design digitally, we ensured efficient coordination between architecture, structural engineering and services. Feasibility, manufacturability and future-proofing were central to this process. Thanks to a precise BIM approach, design choices could be validated at an early stage and bottlenecks resolved in good time, contributing to a high-quality end result.
