The design by Kraaijvanger Architects was commissioned by Van Wijnen. An Integral Child Centre (ICC) will be built on the current site of De Tjalk primary school. The entire building is enclosed by a special roof that allows the building to fit in with its surroundings yet still have a recognisable and special function. Because of its shape, the building has no rear side and can be approached from all sides.
This project had a unique challenge: strict austerity measures had to be implemented without losing sight of the design quality. One of the most defining elements was the unusual roof shape, which required a lot of time and energy in elaboration. To deal efficiently with the available resources, we applied a ‘BIM light’ approach. This means that we achieved maximum results with minimum effort, so that the contractor and his suppliers could immediately start working on the production models.
With this smart, targeted approach, we not only increased efficiency but also ensured the feasibility of the design.
