Het Romeins Museum

Heerlen

project

In Heerlen, the new Roman Museum is being built around the almost 2,000-year-old Roman bathhouse at Coriovallum. The bathhouse is the oldest stone building in the Netherlands and forms the heart of the museum.

The new building brings together archaeology, history and education. Alongside the bathhouse, there will be exhibition spaces, an entrance area, educational facilities and workspaces. A new, elevated museum volume forms a key part of the design and creates space for a new public route through the building. Visitors are guided past the archaeological remains and are offered views of the bathhouse from various vantage points.

The combination of new construction, existing structures and vulnerable archaeological heritage makes the project technically unique. our role

Bim&Beyond was responsible for the architectural development of the Technical Design and Construction Design. Based on the design, we developed the architectural elements to a level suitable for construction.

We focused on technical detailing, structural connections and coordination with the structural engineering and services teams. BIM formed the basis for coordinating the various disciplines and resolving technical interfaces.

Our detailed design brings the architectural design one step closer to the building site: concrete, coordinated and constructible.
