On 7 May 2018, construction began on an iconic project: the Galaxy Tower on the Jaarbeursplein in Utrecht. Ballast Nedam is building a 92-metre-high tower, including an underground car park, the luxury 254-room Amrâth Hotel and no fewer than 317 flats. The design features a striking structure with green roof gardens and ceramic cladding. The tower is an example of sustainable architecture, with green roof gardens, solar panels on the façade and roofs, and a soil-based thermal storage system. As icing on the cake, the 317 homes will be gas-free. Once completed, Galaxy Tower will be a sustainable and green addition to Utrecht's Jaarbeursplein.
For this project, we supported the client and superintendent in detailing the interior and partly the facade. During the process, gaps in the available drawings came to light. We picked these up ad hoc and supplemented them, so that execution could continue without delay. Further detailing was the responsibility of other parties; our contribution was specifically aimed at detailing within the existing design.
