District U is a redevelopment at a prominent location by inspire real estate.
The location, the former Research & Development Center of Unilever in Vlaardingen, became vacant after Unilever moved its activities to Wageningen.
inspire real estate developed a vision for the area and, in cooperation with Leyten, pursued the plans. The iconic main building of Unilever will be preserved and renovated, while the surrounding area will be redeveloped.
Where innovation in the food industry used to be central, a lively living and working area with approximately 800 homes is now being created, right on the Maas River.
Bim&Beyond was involved from the beginning and accurately mapped and modeled the existing condition of the main building. During all phases of the project, up to and including the tender phase, we were responsible for BIM coordination.
Together with the architect Studio for New Realities, structural engineer Van Rossum and installation consultant Overdevest, we developed an integral BIM model. This model is a result of streamlined cooperation between all disciplines and is the basis for a smooth transfer to the executing party. Building physics and acoustics advice was provided by Nelissen Ingenieursbureau.
After the final design, the coordination model has been transferred to the contractor and the realization of this ambitious renovation project can begin. A carefully coordinated digital foundation is ready to give the building a new future.
