Officiële start bouw De Nieuwe Post: hybride rijkskantoor met focus op mens en milieu

Today marks the official celebration of the construction of De Nieuwe Post in Arnhem. The former post office building on Stationsplein West is being transformed into a future-proof government office on behalf of the Central Government Real Estate Agency. Bim&Beyond has been involved from the start of the process and has made an important contribution to a smooth design and construction process with its technical know-how and BIM expertise.

Technology and BIM from the outset
Whereas BIM is often only used in later phases, Bim&Beyond ensured that technical knowledge and BIM were incorporated into the team from the very first design phase in this project. This allowed choices to be tested and improved at an early stage, resulting in an efficient and transparent process.

3D design of wooden superstructure
An important part of the transformation is the light wooden superstructure of five floors. In order to provide the façade builder with optimal support, Bim&Beyond developed a complete façade bay in 3D after the initial engineering discussions, including the rear construction and plank joints. This model-based development made it possible to identify critical details and potential bottlenecks in the assembly at an early stage. This provided clarity not only for the façade builder, but also for the rest of the design team.

From UO1 to aesthetic supervision
Our assignment focuses on the first part of the implementation design (UO1). The contractor is now responsible for the second part (UO2) and the realisation. Bim&Beyond will remain involved in the implementation phase as aesthetic supervisor, to monitor the quality and appearance of the design.

Building impact together
The project is being realised through intensive collaboration between Heijmans, Kraaijvanger Architects, Karres en Brands, DGMR, DWA and IMd. Together, the partners are giving substance to The New Normal: a framework for circular and healthy construction in which innovation, collaboration and sustainability are central.

The completion of De Nieuwe Post is scheduled for early 2027.
